Chapter 5

I really enjoyed Chapter 5! It was cool to actually learn about some anatomy. I felt proud when I was able to name some bones of the face for my biology major roommate! She was pretty impressed that we study the bones and muscles of the face for stage makeup. =]. I had never given much thought about my skull in relation to my makeup before. I can now understand and appreciate why it's so important to know what's under your skin in order to apply makeup effectively. I especially liked the exercise outlined in the book that we did in class on Monday. It was sort of a very surreal experience for me. I don't mean to sound like a freak, but the whole time I couldn't stop thinking about how I'm going to die someday! I usually just connect skulls to death...and it's not everyday that you focus on your own skull for a whole class. I was just being reminded that it's inevitable that my face will just be a skull one day. SCARY! Sorry, I just had to throw that out there. But it was cool to feel the shape of my own bone structure.

I also thought it was cool to draw our bones on our own picture. It's really interesting to see the shape of my jaw and eye sockets and how they contribute to my face shape and ultimately what I look like. I haven't yet had time to do the exercise Matt so cleverly thought up, but I plan on it.

Clowns, Clowns, Clowns!

So on Wednesday I didn't have my black and white picture with me, so I used Andy's as a substitute. On Thursday night I re-did what we did in class with my own picture. It was interesting to see the difference in my design after I had painted it on my face using Andy's picture and then my own.  Here's a picture of those two (left side only):

The top was with Andy's picture and the bottom was with mine. (Don't mind the bottom, I look like a crazy woman with those fly aways!)

I had a lot of fun in class on Friday.  I was anxious to cover my entire face to see my whole design. Here are some pictures:

As you can see, I had way too much fun taking pictures! I can't wait for what's next!

Also, I noticed after doing my research that I'm not very fond of the Auguste clown look for whatever reason.  I am more drawn to the Whiteface and I like the Tramp because I feel that it is able to portray a lot of emotion. 

                                                                                                                      

I found that it is quite simple to upload pictures. I'll probably be doing it a lot.  I also discovered that I should definitely blog on my laptop rather than my ipad.  For some reason it gives me trouble when I try to post from it sometimes.

I really have been enjoying the classes so far. I will say that I'm anxious to get my hands on my makeup though! I can't wait. I am excited to do clowns. I found some really cool pictures to inspire my renderings, but I have been pretty much designing my own. I really need to get into the habit of posting blogs everyday!! I haven't quite figured out how to post pictures...I promise my next entry will have lots of pictures.

I think it might be easier on my laptop rather than my iPad, but I can't seem to pull myself off this thing.
